1998: the first year of qualifying heats
For security reasons and the possible organizational problems posed, we decided to organize two qualifying heats in Périgueux, Dordogne (191km - 2,069 participants) and in Mâcon, Saône et Loire (180km - 3,043 participants) on the 3rd and 10th of May.
Two superb races, managed like real étapes du Tour, unforgettable for us as organizers and for all the competitors who were willing to come along.
Anecdotes
~ The Pasta-Party organized in Grenoble's Palais des sports.
~ Terrible heat which led to innumerable abandonments, making it very difficult to pick up competitors. The sweeper cars thus took much longer than usual to reach the finish.
