~ An edition that was particularly difficult to organize with 3 times as many registrations as the year before.
~ A lack of local coordination and staff volunteers.
~ The starting line was changed 2 hours before the actual start.
~ The only edition of the Etape where the Professional Tour de France organization got mixed up with ours, leading to terrible congestion in the valley and on the Luz-Ardiden climb.
~ A tough race with 4 passes in succession.
~ A large number of abandonments.
~ Cows standing in the middle of the road on the Tourmalet.
