The Etape du Tour returns to the Pyrenees - with a totaly new stage

The traditional village of Foix, in the prefecture of Ariege, will welcome competitors for the two days of celebrations before the Etape du Tour.

The course of the 15th running of the Etape will be very demanding. Severe challenges are presented by the arduous ascents of the Col de Port, the Portet d'Aspet and the Col de Mente. Then competitors will have the privilege of inaugurating the Port de Bales, the new route between the Forest of Barousse and the Valley of Oueil. Then will come the ascent of the Col de Peyresourde and finally the descent into Loudenvielle for a classic Tour de France stage finish.

L'Étape de Légende is born !!

There are ever increasing numbers of you (in France and abroad) who wish to follow the professionals over the routes of the Tour de France. This new cycling event will allow you to discover new regions of France and test yourselves on the stages which have, in the past, created the legend that is the Tour de France.

For this first running of the event, the Etape de Legende will start in Strasbourg, pass over a large part of the Vosges Mountains before arriving on the summit of the Ballon d'Alsace.

You will remember it was this stage in 1967 that proved decisive, bringing to Lucien Aimar his ronly victory in in the Tour de France. This was the stage that year in which Raymond Poulidor crashed, effectively ruining his chance of winning the race.

The Etape de Legende will take place on Sunday 23 September 2007.
