L'Etape du Tour

Hautacam, 100% fun

Hautacam is situated near the town of Argelès-Gazost and places of international renown such as Lourdes, the Cirque de Gavarnie, the Col d'Aubisque, the Col du Tourmalet, or even Cauterets and the Pont d'Espagne. It is an easily accessible, 100% natural area which stands at average altitude and offers a great selection of leisure activities. In the winter, you can do downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, or snow-shoeing in an area surrounded by natural pine forest and breathtaking views of the Pyrenees (Brêche de Roland, Pic du Midi). And for the beginners among us there is a novice space dedicated to discovering the world of skiing: this is especially popular with children.

In the summer, Hautacam gently reveals itself in a setting of unspoiled nature where no structures disturb the natural landscape. Leisure activities for the whole family make it an ideal outing: fun to be had on the Mountain Luge, laughs to be shared descending the mountain in some improbable way (devalkart, rollerbe, mountain board), challenges to be met in the mountain bike area (new in 2014). And for the athletes among us, all kinds of achievements can be accomplished in hiking paragliding, mountain biking, cycling and so on...

The cyclists of the Tour de France first discovered the formidable ascent of Hautacam in 1994. Ranked "hors catégorie" (unclassified) like the Tourmalet, it stands among the main mountain climbs of the Hautes-Pyrénées (it was also a stage finish in 1996, 2000, 2008 and will be again on July 24, 2014 ). Ideally situated between the Tourmalet and the Aubisque, Hautacam is the climb that road bike fans do not want to miss. As soon as spring is in the air, cyclists take to the mountain to tackle this tough climb, alone or in groups. Every year thousands of cyclists reach the top of Hautacam and each at their own pace.
In the valley, tourism professionals, service providers and the Tourist Office have worked together in order to create services that welcome amateur cyclists, and offer them services adapted to their needs. Hautacam resort has set up permanent timing terminals and informative road signs placed strategically along the climb. These conditions allow cyclists to experience the famous ascent like a true Tour de France professional.
And finally, for the thinkers among us, Hautacam is the ideal place for daydreaming with a 360 ° panoramic view in a natural environment. Every year in June, the Transhumance festival gives people the opportunity to accompany the herds as they climb to their summer mountain pastures and to share the experience of the local shepherds.

Argelès-Gazost: a thermal spa and holiday resort full of hidden charm, nestled in an open and sunny valley. Argelès-Gazost is the ideal departure point for discovering the tourist sites in the surrounding area (Cauterets, Lourdes, Gavarnie, Pic du Midi, Col d'Aubisque, Col du Tourmalet) and for taking part in different mountain activities (hiking, paragliding, white water sports, ...)
