BECOME A PART OF THE LEGEND

Live the legend of the Tour de France, riding on the same routes and under the same conditions as the professionals: this is the promise that L’Étape du Tour has kept since 1993.

Every year, we invite you to ride one of the mountain stages of the Tour de France: the same stage towns, the same routes, the same mythical climbs but also, and above all, the same race conditions as on the Tour. As the result of a significant amount of work carried out in partnership with the police, local organisations and local authorities, L’Étape du Tour de France is the only cyclosportive to offer routes which are entirely closed to traffic.

With the experience of 31 editions and a pack of 16,000 registered competitors, L’Étape du Tour is now Europe’s benchmark cyclosportive event.

A SPORTING CHALLENGE, A TOURIST ADVENTURE

L’Étape du Tour is, obviously, an immense sporting challenge. But it is also a tourist adventure which will enable you to discover some of the most beautiful parts of France. From Alpine valleys to the Tourmalet, the giant of the Pyrenees, every year the regions which host the event offer breathtaking scenery.

And because the love of cycling knows no borders, and because the Tour itself is a giant, L’Étape du Tour has given rise to several other races around the world, offering you even more stunning landscapes in the same race conditions as the Tour de France.

  • Anecdotes:
    • It was the highest finish in the history of the Étape du Tour de France with the finish line at 2,365 metres above sea level.
    • This year, 20% of the riders retired on this particularly demanding race-route. This is a reminder that the Étape du Tour de France is an extremely demanding event that has forged its legend.
    • The town of Beaufort won the contest of the best decorated towns and was rewarded on the day of the Tour de France stage in Albertville.
    • The Tour de France professional riders didn’t ride the same route as the amateurs who rode a week earlier due to an enormous storm the day before the stage that caused a landslide on the road to Cormet de Roselend. The penultimate stage was thus shortened, retaining just the climb to Val Thorens.
